As Mayor, Mark Herndon will:

Make it possible for families to stay in the communities they love by expanding affordable housing, supporting pathways to better-paying jobs, and advocating for a living minimum wage so hard work in Hamilton County leads to real stability.

Work hand in hand with the Hamilton County Schools Superintendent and School Board to strengthen our public schools, foster welcoming and supportive classrooms, and expand mental health resources so every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Invest in roads, traffic solutions, and public safety to make daily life safer and less stressful while treating taxpayer dollars with respect, cutting waste, and delivering results that matter to working families.

Get to Know Me
Hamilton County deserves better than business as usual—and I’m not here to play politics. I’m a missionary kid, a builder, a husband, a father, and someone who believes in doing the hard work to get results. I’ve lived, worked, and built here—and I know what it takes to put the people back in charge.

I spent the first half of my life in South America, where my parents served for over 30 years as missionaries. Those years taught me faith, resilience, and the value of serving others—lessons I bring to every decision I make.

I moved to Chattanooga in 2001 and have made this community my home. My wife, Meghan, a talented designer and UTC graduate, and I have built our own slice of Tennessee heaven while working across the Tennessee Valley: restoring homes, helping people reach their goals, and investing in the places we love.​​
I’m running for Mayor to end the dysfunction, demand accountability, and ensure Hamilton County finally works for the people—not the insiders. This is our chance to take back our county, protect our schools, preserve our parks, and build a government that listens, acts, and delivers.

We live in Sale Creek with our two amazing daughters, 17 and 13, and carry the memory of our late son, Silas. Family, faith, and community aren’t just words—they drive me every single day.
